Healthy Kids Day
Saturday, April 28, 2018 - 9:00am
School's out and it's time to relax, decompress and have fun with friends. Summer is the time for kids to get up, get out, and grow. But for some kids, exposure to activities that stimulate the body and mind ends with the school year. In fact, research shows that kids are prone to gain more weight and fall behind in their studies.
On Saturday, April 28, the Mansfield Area Y is holding a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active at the annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families. The day-long event features activities such as; obstacle courses, YMCA staff-led sports, healthy snack stations provided by Wayne’s Country Market, and reading by Mansfield- Richland County Public Library. Our goal is to motivate and teach families how to develop and maintain healthy routines at home throughout the summer months.
NEW THIS YEAR: Y on WHEELS!
Y on Wheels brings YMCA programs and services directly to Mansfield and surrounding communities. It's on the road more than 200 days per year delivering by request everything from Zumba® classes, pick up soccer, basketball, baseball games, to nutritional education, all free of charge. Y on Wheels would not be possible without the generous support from WARREN RUPP, A Unit of IDEX Corporation.
Working with community neighborhood associations, schools, and organizations, Y on Wheels is one of the ways the YMCA is reaching out to address key issues affecting community health.
Our Y on Wheels mobile unit will be making its debut for Healthy Kids day by visiting many surrounding community gathering spaces.
The Mansfield Area Y Healthy Kids Day takes place at the following locations featuring Y on Wheels:
Ocie Hill Neighborhood Center: 9:30-10: 30 am
South Park: 11:00am-Noon
Lucas Community Center: 1:00pm-2:00pm
Lexington Bicentennial Park: 3:00-4:00pm
The event will feature fun games, active play and educational activities, healthy snacks, prizes, and reading by Mansfield Public Library. A special thank you to Wayne’s Country Market for providing the fresh fruit and Mansfield-Richland County Public library for their partnership.
Locally, Y on Wheels is sponsored by Warren Rupp, A Unit of IDEX Foundation.
