Swim Lessons


Summer Programs Start the week of June 15th
Facility Members registration begins June 1st
Program Members registration begins June 8th

Children are taught the basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming, plus pool safety, boating safety, use of personal flotation devices and water games.

*Programs are FREE to Household Members (Registration is Required); Exceptions may apply, contact Mansfield YMCA for more information   

 

PARENT/CHILD CLASSES 

Shrimp-Kipper (6 - 18 months)
Water adjustment and songs for infants, water safety and “how to’s” for parents.

Requirement:
A parent or a guardian must be with the child in the water during the class.

7 WEEK Class

 

 

PRE-SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS (3-5 YRS)

Pike (Beginner I)
Learn to float and swim with floatation devices.
Prerequisite: Child should be able to go in the water without supervision of a parent.

Goals:
Gain self-confidence; Swim away from the wall turn and grab the wall with a float belt; Front and back float with assistance; Bob underwater; Paddle on front, back and side with a float belt.

Eel (Beginner II)
Prerequisite: Completion of Pike Class or consent of Aquatic Coordinator. Must be comfortable in the water and be able to swim at least 5 feet with or without floatation device.

Goals:
Jump and return to wall without float belt; Front and back float with little or no assistance; Paddle on front, back and side 25 yards with little or no assistance.

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS (6-12 YRS)

Polliwogs (Beginner I)

Goals
: Gain self-confidence; Swim away from the wall turn and grab the wall with a float belt; Front and back float with assistance; Bob underwater; Paddle for 25 yards on front, back and side with a float belt.

Guppies (Beginner II)
Prerequisite:
Completion of Polliwog and/or Ray and/or Starfish class or consent of Aquatic Coordinator

Goals: Alternating paddle with rudimentary rhythmic breathing for 25 yards. Jump into deep water & paddle for 10 feet, then float for 10 seconds and return to the wall.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS
Swimming lessons that cater to you! Instructors work with your schedule and swimming abilities to provide personalized swim lessons and individual instruction. All ages and abilities are welcome!

3 Lessons (1/2 hour lessons)
Facility Member Rate: $45
Program Member Rate: $70

7 Lessons (1/2 hour lessons)
Facility Member Rate: $85
Program Member Rate: $130

Competitive Swim Clinic
Thinking about joining a swim team or already on one? Improve your swimming techniques (Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Backstroke, Individual Medley and Flip Turns). These individual lessons are taught by experienced swim coaches who will tailor the lessons to fit your individual needs. All lessons are 45 minutes in length and are held at the Mansfield YMCA.
